The Problem of Small Groups

I am teaching at a youth worker's gathering tomorrow and my topic is small groups. I can't stop thinking about how weird small groups are. If you have ever been in one, you understand that asking people you hardly know to receive insane amounts of incriminating information with the hope of confidentiality is a remotely absurd. Why can't small groups be formed by our friend groups? The problem is, it would force us to be actual friends to people. To pick them up when their car breaks down, to throw them over your shoulder as you run out of a burning building, to help them blow out birthday candles when they can't do it in one breath. Here's a complex formula I have been working on: Real friends + Jesus based conversation = something more awesome then the way actual small groups work.
